INFORMATION
The following workshops unless otherwise
stated can be delivered in one day or the equivalent. They can also be
adapted into bigger projects. The age range is from 6 year olds upwards for
most workshops. I can also tailor make a drama workshop to suit a theme you

Villainous Villains & Heroic Heroes
Comedy
improvisation and performance
Thrillingly theatrical and
totally over the top, this workshop on Melodrama will help you create your
own hilarious cartoon capers. Follow in the footsteps of Batman and Robin,
Dick Dastardly, Crueller Deville and many more and put them into a
performance that includes music and mayhem, slapstick and evil laughter.
Talking
wardrobes
An
introduction to physical Theatre
If wardrobes could talk, what
would they say? If televisions told you what to watch, what would they
choose? Without the use of set, props, costume or magic trickery you can
become the answer to these questions and more. Push the boundaries of
theatre to the ‘final frontier’ with this surreal workshop.
Dreaming
In Colour
Shadow
puppets
For all those creative and crafty
people, this workshop not only gives you the opportunity to make your own
shadow puppets and devise your own story, but set it to music and perform on
a small cinema style screen. Colourful animation to take your breath away.
The
Legend Of Tutankhamun
Role-play
and performance
Travel in Egypt to the Valley of
the Kings. As an archaeologist you will discover the true story of how the
tomb of the boy king ‘Tutankhamun’ was found. But beware the curse of the
pharaohs!!

The Pied
Piper Of Hamlin
Improvisation and performance
“Rat’s – they fought the dogs and
killed the cats and bit the babies in the cradles……”
Travel through this wondrous story
acting out various characters, including the rats. Follow the Pied Piper as
he goes inside the mountain. You decide weather to return or not from this
mystical, magical journey.
The Magic
Carpet
Guided Fantasy & movement to music
Magic, Mystery and adventures
beyond your wildest dreams! Travel to new lands on a magic carpet in search
of Fairy Bubbles and the Evil Joker. Make your own ultra violet sea
creatures that guard the crystal caves and perform with them at the
culmination of this dramatic adventure.
Mask Madness
Mask making and performance
This course runs for a minimum of
two days. Create your own character, make your own mask and perform a short
devised performance with it. From its origins in Commedia dell’ arte to
modern day cartoon capers this workshop is fun, artistic and hilariously
funny.
Treasure Island
Based on the book by Robert Louis Stevenson
Taking elements of the book we
will be looking at creating our own performances involving buried treasure,
dastardly pirates, maps, sailing ships, sea shanties and of course, the
black spot! But what shall we do with the drunken sailor?
The Secret Diary
Based on the story of Anne Frank
Learn about the true story of Anne
Frank and aspects of the holocaust. Bring the story to life and experience
some of the realities that Anne had to face in the attic. This workshop
combines a mixture of seriousness with creative elements of hope, dreams and
wishes. A school play and follow up lessons are available to buy direct from
the author, Hilary Lewis. This is suitable for yr 6 pupils upwards.

people aged around 12 to 25 years
 
 
Dramatic Variations
This workshop is
aimed at people who have never had any experience of drama before. It provides a
safe and fun environment in which to explore dramatic creativity and
self-expression. All the exercises are relatively short and easy.
The workshop contains the following elements:-
confidence and communication building, mime,
movement, status, self expression, spontaneous and rehearsed improvisation,
individual, pair and team work, creativity and critical thinking.
Unmasking
the Mask
This workshop combines
the world of mask and drama. The group will be led step by step
through the process of devising their own mask character and creating a
short and simple performance. the workshop includes the following
elements:-
characterisation, a brief history of European mask
looking at Commedia del arte, non-verbal body language, status exercises,
vocal techniques, use of imagination, devising short performance pieces;
making choices and developing dramatic ideas with originality
and structuring them for performance; development of clarity, spatial
awareness, physical control, timing and pace.
Physical
Theatre
This workshop explores the acting
style of Victorian melodrama through the creation of comedy improvisations.
It includes the use of the student's own bodies to become physical objects.
There is a slightly surreal element to this non-naturalistic style of drama.
The seminar includes the following elements:-
mine, storytelling, narration, improvisation,
pair and group work, imagination, exaggerated and synchronised movement,
sound effects, music and performance.

Soundscapes - Art and Music
This workshop takes the group
through the process of turning artwork into music and culminates in a
performance of their own pictures as a percussion piece. The workshop
uses the following elements:-
art and design, working individually and in small groups
creatively, structuring ideas for performance, team work, percussion skills,
learning about graphic scores, writing music graphically, vocal
techniques, performance.
Poetic
Symphony - Music and Poetry
This workshop links the music and
creative expression with a set of easy steps to performance of a poem set to
music. The workshop contains the following elements:-
creative writing, structuring written work
around a given theme, exploration of language and sound, percussion skills,
devised and rehearsed instrument playing, structuring work in small groups
and independently of the tutor, clarity, fluency, control, timing, pace and
dynamics.
Dreaming
in Colour - shadow puppets and performance
This workshop involves the group
devising their own story, making shadow puppets and performing on a small
cinema style screen. The end result will be a colourful animated story
set to music. The workshop contains the following elements:-
teamwork, storytelling, art and craft skills, working in small
groups creatively, structuring ideas for performance, puppetry techniques,
organising technical elements, finding appropriate music and sound effects.
